It was good to be a writer in Soviet times. Just write poems and prose. If you were able to agree with the authorities - you could print exploiting all capacity of the printing houses. If you were a dissident - you could collect your manuscripts and then publish pretty books in the West. Of course if your name was Dovlatov or Solzhenitsin. 320
