The holiday 8th of March is celebrated mostly in the former Soviet Union countries, as well as in Brazil, Cuba, in some eastern European countries and Asian with the strong influence of Communism ideas such as China, Laos.

However, even in the CIS countries the holiday bears a symbolic meaning as this tradition came from the Soviet Union when the typical Soviet philosophy ruled.

Nowadays, the ideals of the Soviet epoch are not of high value any more. People do not understand or remember why women should be congratulated and brought different gifts as flowers and other pleasant trifles.

Actually, the central figure of the 8th of March is Klara Zetkin an active public person from Germany, but may be few ones know that on her initiative in 1907 the first International female conference was organized. And few may realize that the female day was originally called International Working Woman's Day (IWD). Of course, when men present flowers and chocolate, the most usual gifts on the 8th of March, they do not think that it is major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women.

Some consider that the 8th of March became an occasion for men to express their love to the women around them in a way somewhat similar to Mother's Day, the holiday which is marked in the USA.

It is worthy of mentioning that the first IWD was observed on February 28 1909in the United States following a declaration by the Socialist party of America. Among other relevant historic events, it came to commemorate the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaiste Factory fire, the incident which happened because of the bad labour conditions, and which triggered the female movement in America.

Furthermore, on the eve of World War I, women across Europe held peace rallies on March 8 1913. In the West, International Women's Day was commemorated during the 1910s and 1920s, but dwindled. It was revived by the rise of feminism in the 1960s.

What is the bitterest part of the 8th of March holiday is that men in the XXI century feel that there is no need to celebrate the holiday which would promote women further on to the first place in the society. They consider that this is discrimination of their rights, as no one struggle for men rights in the world. Therefore, some men believe that they are humiliated when they should help a woman to put on a coat, or give her a way. Therefore, this holiday is regarded by some men, who are probably like their freedom more than their own ration, as a compulsion to present the best what they have for their nearest and dearest women. Are men of the new generation really weaker than women, that they should be defended?
