Turkic-language Wikipedias Conference to strengthen ties between Turkic-speaking communities - Massimov
"Turkic-language Wikipedias" Conference has been held today at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty. The event is a part of "Kazaksha Wikipedia" project, which is implemented under the aegis of the Government of Kazakhstan.
In his welcome address Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov noted that in modern conditions of development of domestic content, much depends on users, who patriotically aspire to provide all assistance in the development of native language, culture, education, science and creativity. The Prime Minister expressed the hope that this event will serve to strengthen ties between the Turkic-speaking communities to achieve their goals.
As a result of a wiki contest organized under the project, the number of active editors and the number of articles increased several times. The conference summed up the intermediate results of the wiki contest and awarded the winners from all regions of Kazakhstan. The authors of 100 articles compliant to the requirements of the encyclopedia have been presented laptops.
Within the framework of "Kazaksha Wikipedia" project the number of articles in the Kazakh section of Wikipedia increased from 7 thousand to 126 thousand ones (since June 2011). The number of monthly viewed pages increased from 200 thousand to 5 million ones.
